Beauty awaited the day she would tame a beast
She sang in a wheat field to no avail
She read every book at the library store
But all she found was a few books more
Where was her beast?
And where could he be?
She sang as she wondered through her town
But all she did was make passerby’s frown
Her father was an accountant and not a crazy inventor
And her steed was a sedan with four-wheel drive.
Instead of a carriage with a reliable horse
But she donned a cloak on a mid-winter’s eve
And road away in her sedan steed.
Where are you going?
And what are you doing?
Her father asked.
But young Bell didn’t not answer him back.
“You’re only 16,” he bellowed at her back.
She shook her head as she said,
Fathers just don’t understand young girls these days.
So, she drove for a few hours
Until she came to a fork in the road.
One path was a dirt road filled with towering oaks.
The other was paved.
But young Bell had no plans to behave.
So she set off down that dark little dirt path.
Where was her beast?
And where could he be?
She wondered as she drove a little slower
The moon began to creep up over the hills
And Young Bell felt a chill.
Just then, what could you have guessed?
But a young white rabbit darted across the road.
Thoughts of her quest ran away from her mind
As she stopped the car and peered for the rabbit.
Because she thought for sure it was a sign.
Instead of a rabbit, she found a young Labrador puppy.
Eyeing her anxiously back.
Her heart began to melt as peered at the poor little creature.
She felt akin to what was sure a lost little soul.
Quick as she could, she grabbed up the puppy.
When she returned home, she fed him quite the feast.
Her father watched her falling in love with her new puppy.
And offered, “Why don’t you call him ‘The Beast.’
