Writers and Poets

Farida Dowler: Farida Dowler tells stories, plays guitar and sews dolls. She has maintained
Saints and Spinners, her song and story blog, since 2005. She continues to live happily ever after with her husband and daughter in Seattle, Washington.

Gypsy Thornton: a.k.a. ‘THE INK GYPSY’, spent more years than she’d like to count working in different forms of theater and dance - performing, writing, directing, coaching and working in multimedia - along with a variety of odd-jobs to make sure the bills got paid. She left her much loved home in Australia to follow her dream of working in story development for feature animation and ended up making drawings walk and talk for the next seven years, before giving in and marrying an animator. She is now devoted to looking after their son, who, in addition to making her laugh every day, has helped her realize no matter how crazy life gets she simply must write. She had her first book, on the subject of ballet and theater, published through a small press in 2008 and is now busy working on both long and short form fiction. Anything fairy tale, folklore or monster related is tackled with great enthusiasm (see her daily fairy tale news blog for evidence) though she also pens fantasy, urban fantasy and suspense. Check out
Once Upon A Blog.

Cecelia Myers: Cecelia is assistant editor at Enchanted Conversation. An inveterate reader of fairy tales and all of the Oz books, she also loves to cook. She lives in Chicago with her husband.

Eva Eliav:
Eva Eliav grew up in Toronto, Canada and now lives in Israel. Her poems and short stories have been published in a number of magazines, including Room of One’s Own, Natural Bridge, Quality Women’s Fiction, New Horizons, Flashquake and ARC Israel. She enjoys fantasy and science fiction and has written and illustrated a group of fables called “The Quest”. Her other interests include painting, films, and finding the perfect frappuccino. Eva Eliav is married and has a daughter.

Kaitlin Stahl: Kaitlin writes -- "I am a native Ohioan who is currently supporting her budding writing career by teaching young adult literacy classes. At the moment, I am working on a number of short stories in between revising my first salvageable novel."

Amy Rensberger: Amy has extensive experience as a newspaper writer and columnist. She currently works as a banker. She lives in Indiana, with her husband and three children.

Claire Massey: Claire Massey lives in Lancashire, UK with her husband and two young sons. Her short stories, poetry and articles have been published in a variety of magazines both online and in print including Rainy City Stories, Magpie Magazine and Brittle Star, and she’s had a short play produced at the Contact Theatre in Manchester. She is the founder and editor of online magazine
New Fairy Tales and she blogs about fairy tales at The Fairy Tale Cupboard.

Samuel Valentino: Sam tells EC -- "I am an illustrator who works in Boston, Massachusetts. I became interested in fairy tales when I rediscovered the Brothers Grimm in college, and haven’t stopped reading them since. Or, in a sense, living them, as I am married to a woman who makes 'happily ever after' more than just words on a page. We have three small children, so I actually envy Sleeping Beauty the amount of sleep she managed to get." Check out more of his work at
Art-Samples.

Jennifer Liu: Jennifer is a university student in New Zealand, studying English and psychology. Her hobbies include daydreaming and the Internet. That is, when she is not sleeping.

Deborah Walker: After a twenty year period of procrastination, Deborah Walker has started to write short stories, poetry and tweets. She lives in London with her partner Chris and her two lovely, yet distracting, young children. Find her fantasy in Atomjack, Silverblade, Every Day Weirdness, Bards and Sages Quarterly, The Lorelei Signal, Sorcerous Signals, a capella Zoo and Abandoned Towers.

Cathy C. Hall: Cathy C. Hall is a writer and columnist who's been in love with fairy tales since she was a little girl, growing up in Georgia. Find out where her essays, articles, short stories, and other poems have been published by visiting her website at
Cathy C. Hall.

Lynnette Wissink: Lynnette Wissink is a lover of many tales, from fairy tales to those of non-fiction. She started telling her own tales to friends and relatives when she was young, and tells them now to her own children. She lives in Iowa with her two children and their extremely fat cat, Boxer.

Tahlia Merrill: Tahlia Merrill is 20 years old and lives in Syracuse, New York, but goes to school at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California where she is studying English. Her favorite authors include Shannon Hale, Gail Carson Levine, and Agatha Christie. If you want to read more of her writing, check out
GuardianGhost.wordpress.com.

Maria Duffy: Maria tells EC -- "I'm a busy mum of four young children - Eoin (12), Roisin (11), Enya (8) and Conor (6). As you might guess from the names, we're Irish, living in Ireland's capital city, Dublin. Having four children under six years of age, I didn't have much time for anything for a number of years, but when I finally had all children in school last year, I discovered my love of writing. I've just completed a book of contemporary women's fiction and have a number of collections of poetry, none of which has been published. 'Fairy in Stilettos' my publishing debut - I hope you like it."

Avil Beckford: Chief Invisible Mentor, writer and researcher with over 15 years of experience, Avil is the published author of Tales of People Who Get It and its companion workbook Journey to Getting It. She blogs at
The Invisible Mentor, where you will find book reviews and interviews of highly accomplished people.

Gerri Leen: Gerri Leen lives in Northern Virginia and originally hails from Seattle. She has written poetry for years but only recently for publication. She also writes fiction in many genres, including fantasy--both light and dark, and often centered around mythology--science fiction, and literary. Look for her upcoming collection of short stories, Life Without Crows, in early 2010. In addition to Enchanted Conversation, you can find her stories and poems in such places as: Paper Crow, Sword and Sorceress XXIII, Return to Luna, Triangulation: Dark Glass, Footprints, Sails & Sorcery, Origins, Desolate Places, and GlassFire. Visit
GerriLeen.com to see what else she's been up to.

Aisling Burke: Aisling Burke is an Irish girl living in Dublin. She's a nurse, teacher and trained ballroom dancer. In between she squeezes in a few minutes here and there to write. Currently her novel is under consideration by a top Irish publisher, so fingers crossed.

Amanda Marlowe: Amanda Marlowe grew up reading Andrew Lang's colored Fairy Books, and just about every other fairy tale collection she could get her hands on. She loves writing fairy tales with twists to them. Amanda is also an editor of Toasted Cheese, an online literary magazine.

Ariel Woodruff: Ariel Woodruff is a lover and teller of tales in all their myriad forms. A hopeful, mischievous, aspiring Schehrezade, she is currently "spinning" away at her first young adult novel. Her nonfiction work frequently appears in The Canine Chronicle, where she expounds on her other great love, dogs.
