By Jennifer Liu
in her mind, images are
spinning, spinning
straws of gold like her hair
her dreams filled with dreams
drawn breaths, a shadow
a smile tugging at her lips
rosy with gifts
her otherwise still frame
eternal time hung
in suspended silence
a spelled lullaby
what she is dreaming of
she is waiting for her happiness
to kiss her awake, until that day

A beautiful, lyrical, linering poem.
I have never considered what might have been going on in Aurora’s mind during her sleep. Perhaps she was dreaming of the next day or what her world will look like once she wakes up. It is always amazing to me when other people raise questions or put twists on thoughts that I would never think about; for instance when the author of this poem wrote this I wonder if she knew that it would make so many people question the action packed dreams of Sleeping Beauty or if she even dreamt of anything. This poem is a deep evaluation of the things people think of while reading these wonderful fairy tales. I am glad to have read such an imaginative piece of work as well as respond to the many new questions that have arisen from this interesting spin on the tale. I loved this poem and hope to continue to read tales with more of an open mind.
